Doxycycline is used to treat bacterial infections. Doxycycline treats urinary tract infections, intestinal infections, respiratory infections, eye infections, sexually transmitted infections (like gonorrhoea and syphilis), gum infections, diseases (like periodontitis), and others. Besides this, Doxycycline also treats acne-like lesions caused by rosacea. However, it does not treat facial redness caused by rosacea.
Doxycycline being an antibiotic prevents the growth of bacterial cells (the bad ones!) by preventing the formation of the outer protein layer of bacteria (cell wall) responsible for bacteria's growth and multiplication. It is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, i.e. it acts against various bacteria. It is a bacteriostatic antibiotic, i.e. it stops bacteria growth but does not kill them.
Doxycycline should only be taken if advised by your doctor. It can be taken with or without food but should be consumed at a fixed time for the best results. You should complete the course of Doxycycline as your doctor prescribes for better results. Some common side effects of Doxycycline are nausea (feeling or being sick), vomiting, diarrhoea, etc. Please consult your doctor if these side effects become troublesome.
Doxycycline is pregnancy category D (high risk) medicines, so its use in pregnant and nursing mothers is not recommended. Use of Doxycycline during tooth development (last half of pregnancy, infancy, and childhood up to the age of 8 years) may cause teeth staining (yellow-grey-brown). Do not consume alcohol as it may cause excessive drowsiness when taken along with Doxycycline. Before using Doxycycline, tell your doctor if you ever had an allergy to Doxycycline, have kidney problems, liver problems, swollen food pipe (esophagitis) or muscle disease (myasthenia gravis). Please do not drink alcohol with Doxycycline as it may increase the unpleasant side effects like drowsiness and dizziness.
You should consume plenty of fluids as they may feel like a flushing unit is needed to get the fluid flowing effectively.Doxycycline should not be taken by people who are allergic to it or it may cause an allergic reaction. If you are using any other antibiotic, then then then then then then may cause an allergic reaction, especially if it causes a rash, itching, swelling (hives), dizziness or other breathing problems.
Tell your doctor if you have a history of heart problems, heart attack, stroke, heart failure, high or low blood pressure, liver or kidney problems, stomach or intestinal bleeding, blood disorders (including anemia or multiple myeloma), personal or family history of personal|tissue injuries, such as sprains or injuries to the head, back, or lower limbs, muscle pain, spasm, numbness or difficulty in understanding, or stiffness of the joints.Doxycycline should not be taken for more than 2 weeks in duration. If you become pregnant while taking Doxycycline, contact your doctor immediately. Doxycycline may cause photosensitivity.

Methods:A multicenter, open-label, phase I study was conducted in the University Hospital of Ontario (UHOP). Doxycycline hyclate tablets were supplied by the University of Ontario pharmacy (UOP) for the treatment of rosacea. Each tablet was administered once a day. The subjects were randomly assigned to receive either doxycycline hyclate tablets, doxycycline monohydrate (50 mg; 100 mg/100 mg) or doxycycline monohydrate alone, or doxycycline hyclate tablets, doxycycline monohydrate or doxycycline hyclate alone.
Results:The mean change in clinical symptoms score (mean change from baseline to endpoint, mean change from baseline to endpoint, change from baseline to endpoint, and change from baseline to endpoint) was significantly higher for the doxycycline hyclate tablets (5.0 ± 3.5, 4.3 ± 3.1, 3.6 ± 3.2 and 2.9 ± 3.0, respectively) than the doxycycline monohydrate (1.6 ± 1.2, 1.4 ± 1.0, 1.3 ± 0.8 and 1.6 ± 0.7, respectively).
Conclusions:This study demonstrated that doxycycline hyclate tablets were generally well tolerated compared to doxycycline monohydrate.

Rosacea, a non-inflammatory skin condition, is characterized by the presence of large numbers of red, pus-filled, papulopustules and blisters. Rosacea can lead to various clinical and physical manifestations such as facial redness, pain, and redness. Doxycycline hyclate tablets, the main ingredient in doxycycline hyclate tablets, is a broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat rosacea. However, it has been demonstrated that doxycycline hyclate tablets are not efficacious in the treatment of rosacea. Therefore, it is important to establish the efficacy and safety of doxycycline hyclate tablets compared to doxycycline monohydrate in the treatment of rosacea.
The efficacy of doxycycline hyclate tablets compared to doxycycline monohydrate in the treatment of rosacea was assessed in a phase I double-blind, placebo-controlled study. The objective of this study was to compare the efficacy of doxycycline hyclate tablets with doxycycline monohydrate in the treatment of rosacea.

The mean change from baseline in clinical symptoms score was significantly higher for doxycycline hyclate tablets compared to doxycycline monohydrate (4.0 ± 3.5, 5.1 ± 4.6 and 5.4 ± 3.1, respectively).

Doxycycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that has proven effective in treating various bacterial infections. It is often prescribed for respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and other gastrointestinal infections. In addition to this, it is used to treat acne, rosacea, and rosacea-like skin conditions in both dogs and cats.
Doxycycline is available as an oral tablet and injectable liquid solution, and as an orally disintegrating tablet. It is often prescribed to dogs and cats with respiratory disease caused bysporulation of bacteria into the lungs.
In addition to respiratory disease, doxycycline may be used to treat other conditions such as bacterial vaginosis, chlamydia, and trichomoniasis in cats, as well as Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and anthrax in dogs and cats.
Mechanism of Action
Doxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic, meaning it inhibits the formation of bacterial cells, making it effective against a wide variety of bacterial pathogens. It works by interfering with the formation of bacterial cell walls, leading to the death of the bacteria. The action of doxycycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, with the ability to target various bacteria types.
Doxycycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic, meaning it targets the bacteria that cause infections. It also inhibits the development of a cell, leading to the death of the cells and ultimately the growth and reproduction of the bacteria. This action helps to prevent the spread of infection in susceptible species.

Pharmacokinetics
Doxycycline is an orally disintegrating tablet containing a suspension of 10 mg of doxycycline in 100 mL of water. The amount of doxycycline in the oral suspension is usually within the range of 1 to 3 mg/L, depending on the pet's weight. However, it is usually taken once daily, with the recommended dose being 1 mg/kg. This makes it an ideal choice for pets and cats with respiratory disease, acne, or rosacea-like skin conditions.
Inactive Ingredients
It is often prescribed for cats and dogs with respiratory disease caused by anaerobic bacteria, as well as for those who have a history of bacterial infections in their system.
